With Art en Chemin, let yourself be guided along the paths of the largest open-air art museum. Whether you’re looking for an immersive holiday, a day trip or a cultural break, there are many ways to walk or hike with us.
In the heart of the UNESCO Geopark of Haute-Provence, we accompany you for a day or a longer stay to discover the exceptional collection of mountain art at the Gassendi Museum, set amid the magnificent landscapes of the Digne-les-Bains region.
In 2024, as part of a LEADER project, Art en Chemin was supported by Europe and the Departmental Council of the Alpes de Haute-Provence to help make the Gassendi Museum’s Mountain Art collection a tourist destination.

Founded in 2012, Art en Chemin brings together mountain professionals and independent accommodation providers, trained and certified by the Gassendi Museum in Digne-les-Bains to accompany the public in discovering its unique collection of mountain art:
A team of mountain guides, able to propose hikes adapted to your adapted to your level and interests in the breathtaking landscapes of the UNESCO Geopark of Haute-Provence
Hostesses to welcome you for a night and a meal; fine connoisseurs of the works, able to guide you towards them… while sharing local cuisine.
Others art and nature enthusiasts who have chosen to come together to work, share their practices, train… to bring you the most beautiful of discoveries.

Starry nights at the museum – Itinerant stays
In our magnificent landscapes, art becomes a bridge between humans and nature. As you walk, you will discover that the most precious work of art is often the one we carry within ourselves. Starry nights at the museum invite you to set off on a journey through the UNESCO Geopark of Haute-Provence and enjoy the unique experience of sleeping in nature, next to a work of art in the mountains.

Les Esca(rt)pades – day discovery
Let yourself be carried away by an artistic discovery that respects nature. Every step is an encounter, every landscape a living canvas.
For one day, in the magnificent landscapes of Haute-Provence, the esca(rt)pades will take you to see works and artists from the Gassendi Museum’s unique Art in the Mountains collection.

Art en Chemin offers day trips (from kindergarten to high school – PassCulture referencing) as well as school trips, with accommodation in a campsite or accommodation centre; On the program: artistic and scientific discoveries, history, environmental education, hiking and land art.

Towards the paths of art
Rise up on discreet paths to encounter works of art mysteriously arranged in nature. Walk in the footsteps of two internationally renowned artists, Andy Goldsworthy and herman de vries, through the breathtaking landscapes of Haute-Provence. Breathe clean air in a peaceful natural setting.

TO ART REFUGES IN HAUTE-PROVENCE
Set in the exceptional landscapes of Haute-Provence, this tour is an invitation to a dialogue between science, art and nature. Through a sensitive walk, we’ll get as close as possible to the secret world of the ancients, and follow in the illustrious footsteps of the philosopher Pierre Gassendi.

Take time to stroll through the Promenade museum’s marvellous Saint-Benoît park, then along the majestic Bès valley. Take the time to pause in contact with poetic or unusual works of art inscribed in the landscape like so many memories of the passing of time. Spend a convivial evening at the gîte de Flagustelle, in an unspoilt setting.

Bivouac evening at La Forest
Imagine… an old abandoned hamlet in the forest, above the Gorges du Vançon. An easy walk in the forest and a few minutes later, some ruins in the undergrowth attest to an ancient human presence. We arrived at our destination at the Refuge d’art de la Forest for one night.
Duration: 2 Days and 1 Night
