What to expect

"I really like that people can spend the night with a sculpture. And that they are no longer just visitors but guests to eat and sleep. Waking up with a sculpture should introduce a more intimate relationship between the viewer and the work. It's the difference between 'living with' and 'looking', between an observer and a participant" – Andy Goldworthy, about the Art Refuges.

Imagine... an old abandoned hamlet in the forest, above the Gorges du Vançon. An easy access walk, in the forest, of a little more than an hour, the time to disconnect and listen to all the noises around us. We are in a Mediterranean oak forest, where the sonorous cries of jays rub shoulders with the rustling in the leaves and stones: lizards, foxes, wild boars are active around us. After a steep slope, the view opens up to the Vançon gorges, where you can hear the distant bubbling of the waters. A few minutes later, a few ruins in the undergrowth attest to an ancient human presence. Here we are in a clearing: the hamlet of La Forest and its old chapel will be our refuge for the night.
